James Robert Lumpkins
Apr 27, 2018He was a native of Sycamore and Hurt.James served one year in the United States Army, beginning at the age of 15 years old. He then enlisted in the Navy, during WWII and served aboard and aircraft carrier, submarine and destroyer. During his service, he was awarded the following medals: The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After serving his country for seven years, James worked in the Naval Shipyards in Norfolk until he was hired by the Ford Motor Company in Walton Hills, OH, where he worked for 30 plus years until retirement.James then made his retirement residence in Hurt, enjoying tending to his property, his cars, planting gardens, tinkering with amateur ham radio, and of course always armed and ready with a joke and a $2 bill and an infectious smile to share.James was preceded in death by his loving wife Amelia in 2014, father, George and mother, Annie, brothers, Landon, Floyd, and Junior; sisters, Reba, Dora, and Lillian.He was a devoted father to Bobby (Sue) Lumpkins, Wands (Denis Balogh), and Karl Lumpkins. He was a devoted grandfather to Andrew (Erin), Joseph (Jenny), and Sandy (Nick) Herpy, Bonnie Zaccaro, (Vinnie), Samantha Jakub,Cory and Ryan Brewer. He was an adoring great-grandfather to Emma Claire, Julianna Marie, Gavin Maxwell Jakub, Bridget Abigail, Callum, Elsie, and Adeline.Family received friends, Thursday, April 19, from 6-8 p.m. at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, OH. A service was held, Friday, 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with honors followed at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Baptist Church, 3480 Laurel Road, Brunswick, OH. 44212.
